Sensory Play

Sensory play is any activity that engages children’s primary sensory systems (touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing) and helps increase awareness of their environment as they continue to grow and develop. These experiences allow children to build their understanding of life around them as they continue their development journey.

Sensory play allows children to recognize textures and experiment with their touch and movement. Children may build sand castles, play in water or mud, or paint using finger paint – activities that support cognitive skills like observation, counting, organizing, and sorting.

Sensory play can support children’s visual sensory system by teaching them to identify colors and patterns, including engaging them in scientific activities like color mixing or shadow exploration games. Olfactory sensory activities promote our sense of smell and taste while tactile/proprioceptive sensory play includes jumping, crawling, or rolling around outdoors – so even without you realizing it, you can incorporate sensory play into their everyday routine – playing in a sandbox or “cooking” with nature using leaves, sticks, and grass can provide wonderful sensory experiences!

Music & Movement

Children love to dance, sing, clap, march, bang, and shake when it comes to music! Dancing helps them express emotions, make rhythm patterns and beats, and recognize differences between fast and slow speeds as well as loud and soft volumes of sounds. Integrating music and movement activities into daily classroom activities adds fun and supports the development of cognitive, social-emotional motor, and language skills that contribute to school readiness.

Play high-quality music beyond top 40 hits, advertisement jingles, movie or TV soundtracks, and the usual top 40 hits. Encourage children to actively listen and discuss how these pieces make them feel or what memories they bring up for them. Use scarves, hoops, and balls as props for movement; scarves or hoops with balls tied to them can also aid movement. Establish basic ground rules for self-management and auditory/visual cues (such as stopping the music or dimming lights signaling when it’s time for children to move like snakes crawling or jumping joyfully to pieces representing animal sounds!

Creative Arts & Crafts

Children’s creative thinking abilities are developed through arts and crafts activities that allow them to explore their imaginations and creativity freely. Furthermore, these activities also develop fine motor skills while strengthening hand-eye coordination as they manipulate materials such as paints, crayons, masking tape, string, or clay. Furthermore, using art materials allows children to experiment with ideas while understanding that failure is part of self-regulation – an invaluable lesson.

Plan opportunities for children to observe and respond to creative movement and dance performances, such as inviting community members or professionals to demonstrate movement genres or encouraging children to express their emotions through words or actions during performances.

Centers that follow the Reggio Emilia educational approach foster creative learning through extended projects that either evolve from children’s interests or are introduced by educators – and are long enough to promote idea generation, negotiation, and conflict resolution among their pupils. For instance, children might undertake a sculpture project exploring themes of “home” for several weeks while watching family home videos, visiting natural environments of home living environments, and researching the homes of other children.

Language & Literacy

Creative Minds Early Learning Center operates four locations and provides various curriculums for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and children up to age 14. A family whose child attended Creative Minds Early Learning Center’s Tyngsboro location when employee Lindsay Groves took illicit photos of children has filed a lawsuit alleging leadership failed to address her conduct despite complaints and requests regarding Lindsay’s behavior. They wish for reimbursement of emotional distress costs incurred while attending there as well as medical and therapy bills and expenses. Unfortunately, Creative Minds has not commented on their involvement or response regarding this lawsuit.

Social & Emotional Development

An early learning center offers more than cognitive and language development; it also facilitates social-emotional growth in its pupils. Children spend most of their time with other children and teachers at these centers, giving them ample opportunity to communicate feelings, take turns caring for one another, work cooperatively, and develop greater large and small motor skills through daily play.

If you want to give your child the best start in life, an early learning center is your answer. They employ fully licensed professional staff with expert knowledge about supporting young children’s social, emotional, and physical development. Preschool skills will also be taught within an educationally sound environment – while instilling a lifelong appreciation of learning!
